Amazon disputes report that it raised prices of popular items since Trump took office
Amazon has taken issue with a Wall Street Journal pricing analysis, calling it “fundamentally flawed” and misleading. The WSJ report claimed that prices on 2,500 everyday goods increased by 5% on average in the months following President Trump’s tariff announcements.
Products analyzed included household and pantry staples like cough drops and chicken broth. Amazon argued that some price changes were due to expiring promotions rather than cost pressures from tariffs.
The company stressed that its algorithm-driven pricing leads to frequent fluctuations, making short-term comparisons unreliable.
Inflation data from June shows consumer prices in the U.S. climbed 0.3% over the month and 2.7% from a year earlier.
