Meta says it will let candidates use AI in some job interviews
Meta is piloting a new coding interview model that permits candidates to use AI tools during the assessment process. Internal communications, confirmed by 404 Media, show the company is engaging internal employees for mock interviews to fine-tune the format.
The move reflects the growing role of AI assistants and agents in professional workflows, especially in software development. Allowing their use in interviews is intended to replicate the environment Meta engineers encounter daily.
“Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant,” an internal message stated. “This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective.”
A Meta spokesperson added: “We’re obviously focused on using AI to help engineers with their day-to-day work, so it should be no surprise that we’re testing how to provide these tools to applicants during interviews.”
