Tesla is reportedly behind on its pledge to build 5,000 Optimus bots this year

Tesla is reportedly behind schedule in its effort to deliver 5,000 Optimus humanoid robots this year, with only a few hundred units completed so far, according to The Information. The report, citing two sources, suggests the company may have to adjust its targets for 2025.

This delay comes amid a 12% drop in Tesla’s second-quarter revenue, influenced by declining electric vehicle sales and weaker energy product demand. During a recent earnings call, Elon Musk confirmed plans to begin production of the Optimus 3 model in early 2026.

Musk also reaffirmed Tesla’s long-term goal to manufacture one million Optimus units annually within five years — a goal he characterized as realistic, despite past missed milestones on robotaxi production.
